Marzouki continues incitement, and a new failure for Ennahdha in the Tunisian street

Former Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki continues to incite against the Tunisian authorities and President Kais Saied, taking advantage of any movement in the Tunisian street.

In a letter addressed to protesters against the president, Marzouki called for the formation of a democratic front to topple what he called the current “coup” in the country.
Marzouki tweeted: “Authoritarian talk about the people is now becoming funny. You are the people, not what is in his imagination, and you are the biggest lie when he keep talking on your behalf”.

He added: “The citizens’ goal doesn’t change: isolation and prosecution, as there is no dialog with colonialism and apartheid; there is no dialog with tyranny except for the end. The battle against the coup must be led to its end, and this requires that the ranks under the banner of the constitution be united. All those who are behind this intruder on the national scene and the revolution know that he is incompetent and abnormal, and the preparation for replacing him may be more advanced than we imagine”.

He continued: “Therefore, the democratic front must be formed quickly and the alternative must be prepared; there is no alternative but the rule of law and institutions under the banner of the constitution to serve the rights and freedoms of all Tunisians”.

The parties of the Movement Tunisia – the Will (founded and now chaired by Marzouki), the Republican People’s Union, the People’s Will and the Wafa Movement announced in September the formation of a democratic front to confront President Kais Saied’s measures through peaceful means, but this front has not yet been activated on the ground.

A few days ago, Marzouki announced a large-scale electronic campaign on social networking sites titled “The People Want to Oust Saied”, and called on Tunisian youth to participate in a “virtual revolution” to demand the dismissal of President Kais Saied. He held the responsibility of “the judicial, military, security and media institutions to hasten the dismissal of the president, who will lead the Tunisian bus to the abyss”.

The Tunisian capital witnessed a demonstration yesterday with limited participation hours after President Kais Saied issued a decree to form a temporary Supreme Council of the Judiciary, granting him himself wide powers including the promotion and removal of judges in case of violation of their duties.
Despite calls from Ennahdha and pro-Ennahdha figures, as well as opposition parties, for citizens to participate in the demonstration, participation was meager, with only 2,000 participants, which observers considered a new failure for Ennahdha in the Tunisian street, according to CNN.
The demonstrators carried their country’s flags, chanted anti-Saied slogans, and demanded that Saeed not touch the judiciary and threaten their country’s fledgling democracy.
