Truce violation – Joint forces repel Houthi attack in Hodeida
The joint forces announced at dawn on Tuesday that they had repelled a large-scale attack by Houthi militias on one of the fronts in Hodeida, in a flagrant violation of the humanitarian truce.
In a brief statement issued by the joint forces’ military media, said its forces repelled an attack by Houthi militias through a large-scale infiltration attempt targeting the Hays axis in the southern coastal province.
The statement said units from the internationally recognized joint forces repelled the massive infiltration attempt by Houthi militias and forced the attackers to flee after killing and wounding their ranks.
The statement called the attack by Houthi militias a flagrant violation of the UN-backed humanitarian truce.
Houthi militias carried out two infiltration attempts in the Hodeida district of Hays, as well as one attack on Falayha front south of Marib in the past 24 hours, according to the Yemeni army.
On Monday evening, the Yemeni army said it recorded 81 violations by Houthi militias, including 23 in the Taiz fronts, 22 in the Marib fronts, 17 in the Hajjah fronts, 14 in the Bahar and Hays axes on the western coast, and 5 in the battlefronts east of Hazm al-Jawf.
Houthi militias also continued to push in human and material reinforcements to several fronts, including nine patrols carrying materiel and personnel that were pushed into various locations south of Marib.
The Houthi violations came as the UN envoy to Yemen, Sana’a, arrived in an effort to consolidate a humanitarian truce that has entered its second week amid continued Houthi violations in Taiz, Hodeidah, Hajjah, al-Jawf, Marib and Dhale.
The Houthi militias escalated their military violations of the UN-backed truce and, during the first week, crossed the barrier of 723 coup violations, according to a toll tracked by Al Ain News from official sources.
The humanitarian truce between Houthi militias and the internationally recognized Yemeni government came into effect at 16:00 GMT on Saturday evening, Yemen time on April 2.
The two-month truce has been widely welcomed by Yemen, the international community, the UN and the region, but Houthi militias are betting on buying time and using the UN truce to regroup and bring more masses and fighters to the line of fire, experts said.
