Qatari government attempts to appease public anger with pension increase
In an attempt to absorb public anger amid rising prices and the deteriorating economic situation, as well as the government’s delay in taking many important steps to reform the conditions of the people, the government took a pictorial reform to improve the situation in a way that reflects the concerns and concerns of the state.
The step was represented by the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, issued Tuesday Emiri Decision No. 18 of 2022, increasing pensions for retirees, and the decision to implement and implement it from April 1, 2022, and to be published in the Official Gazette.
In recognition of their efforts and their role in the development of the State of Qatar and their contribution to the advancement of this country, and out of the concern of the wise leadership to ensure a dignified life for them and their families, HH the Amir Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani issued Emiri Decree No. 18 of 2022 to increase the pensions of Qatari civil and military retirees, said Dr. Mohammed Noemi Al-Hajeri, official spokesperson for the Government Communication Office.
The official spokesman revealed that the law includes the following: First: the minimum pensions for civil and eligible retirees shall be at least 15,000 riyals and, second: The minimum pensions for all military retirees, persons referred to the reserve force or their beneficiaries shall not be less than 15,000 riyals.
It also includes third: An additional special allowance of 4,000 riyals for all retired civilians and military personnel who are referred to the reserve force or who are entitled to it. The Sovereign Ordinance provides that it shall enter into force on April 1, 2022.
Al-Hajeri said the decision is the culmination of a comprehensive reform of the social legislation system.
The decision caused a huge public outcry.
