Climate Summit.. The world meets in Egypt to discuss the fate of humanity
The entire world is coming together to discuss climate issues and the fate of the planet in the face of unprecedented decline and danger on Egypt’s soil, to save humanity.
Human future
Reports around the world confirm that the situation has become very dangerous. Climate crises have negatively impacted many countries and caused huge losses. They have even become a real threat to human existence. If we compare the current situation to the era before the Industrial Revolution, we now find that the waves of heat, drought, storms and destructive floods have doubled, and natural disasters have increased in almost all continents; The Egyptian state is seeking a green transition, a comprehensive and sustainable recovery, and the implementation of the national climate change strategy. Egypt has many experiences with development partners in implementing adaptation and mitigation projects. In parallel, Egypt is implementing ambitious water sector plans to promote the sustainable management of water resources, renewable energy, stimulating green investments through the private sector, implementing adaptation and mitigation projects, and producing green hydrogen, according to a study by the Faroos Center for Strategic Studies and an African affairs specialist.
Colossal losses
A report by the MAAT Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights revealed that the global economic losses will reach $23 trillion by 2050, and that the cost of adaptation of developing countries is $300 billion to climate change in 2030. It clarified that 2 to 9% of the output of African countries is spent to face the effects of climate change, and the size of the American economic losses during the past year reached $145 billion.
Egyptian interest
Imad Eddine Adly, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Egyptian Forum for Sustainable Development, said the country began preparing for the climate summit a long time ago. This was evident through the participation of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in the climate summits held recently to emphasize his interest in the issue of climate change.
Imad Eddine Adly said that the political administration is dealing with the climate issue in an organized way and with a clear strategy, pointing out that Egypt has implemented many projects to reduce the volume of emissions, in addition to implementing adaptation programs in several areas.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Egyptian Forum for Sustainable Development explained that the state has put in place strong programs and projects to protect areas exposed to flooding. He stressed that the state has clear models and pioneering projects in climate protection, and he expected that the Sharm El-Sheik Climate Summit will come up with clear mechanisms to deal with climate change.
The only way
Magdi Allam, Global Climate Program Advisor and Secretary General of the Arab Environment Experts Union, said the world hopes the Sharm el-Sheik climate conference will achieve what previous climate summits failed to achieve. Over the past years and up until now, the major countries have failed to agree on getting rid of fossil fuels, he said.
Magdi Allam explained that the climate conference was held in all industrialized countries in Europe and four African countries, including Egypt, stressing that we are facing an unprecedented challenge, pointing out that there must be a decision and commitments to gradually reduce the volume of emissions every year, and to determine the types of fuels that will be reduced. He warned that if the industrialized countries do not reduce emissions, there is no hope of improving the climate situation.
