Mohamed bin Zayed: The escalation in Sudan must be stopped and a return to the political track


President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed on Monday the need to stop the escalation in Sudan and return to the political track.

Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, received this call from European Council President Charles Michel, during which they discussed various aspects of relations between the UAE and the EU and ways of enhancing them to serve the interests of both sides.

During the call, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the EU official reviewed a number of regional and international issues of common interest, particularly the crisis in the Republic of Sudan.

The UAE president stressed the importance of stopping the escalation, ensuring the protection of civilians, upholding the supreme interest of Sudan and returning to the political track, stressing the UAE’s keenness to support the Sudanese people in achieving their aspirations for building and development.

During the call, the President of the European Council expressed his appreciation for the UAE’s policy of supporting peace and stability in the region, stressing his keenness to maintain constructive communication in dealing with various issues and issues of common interest.

The UAE issued a statement expressing concern over developments in Sudan and calling for calm and restraint.

The statement was followed by continuous telephone conversations between the UAE’s top diplomat, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and his Saudi and American counterparts, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, and Antony Blinken, and also phone talks with Josep Borrell, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on the latest developments in Sudan and ways to stop the escalation.

“On Saturday night, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a joint telephone conversation with his Saudi and US counterparts, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah and Anthony Blinken, to discuss the current situation in Sudan.”

The three ministers stressed the importance of de-escalation and returning to the framework agreement in order to guarantee the security and stability of the Sudan and its people.
