Freedom and Change Regrets Sudanese Army’s Decision to Not Participate in IGAD Meeting
The Sudanese Forces of Freedom and Change regretted on Monday the decision of the Sudanese army delegation not to participate in the meeting of the Quartet Committee of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to resolve the Sudanese crisis despite its presence in Addis Ababa.
The Forces for Change and Freedom said in a statement that it welcomed the renewal and confirmation of the meeting of regional and international powers in Addis Ababa to work to end the war and involve civilians.
They added that they support all efforts made by Saudi Arabia and the United States, the facilitators of the Jeddah Platform, and the IGAD initiative aimed at ending the war in Sudan.
Il also expressed hope that next Thursday’s conference in Cairo will complement efforts to end the war, hand over power to civilians and restore stability in Sudan, the Arab World News Agency reported.
Earlier on Monday, the final communiqué of the IGAD committee meeting called on the Sudanese parties to immediately stop the violence and sign an unconditional ceasefire agreement.
The committee decided to “mobilize all parties concerned to hold a direct meeting between the leaders of the warring parties”, the statement said, noting that IGAD will immediately begin a communication process with the African Union to achieve this.
