Libya: The Muslim Brotherhood Confuses the Cards and Exacerbates Differences… How?

For the second consecutive day, the Libyan High Council of State insisted yesterday, Wednesday, on holding a session boycotted by many members due to the inclusion of items for discussion reached by the Sovereign Positions Committee, in addition to discussing the political situation, the proposal of the mission, and updates on the five-sided dialogue.

Observers of the situation in Libya say that the Muslim Brotherhood group is pushing towards “an attempt to confuse matters away from agreeing on forming a small, temporary government that extends its influence across the entire country, manages public affairs during the remaining transitional period, and oversees the organization of electoral dates, as stipulated in the agreed-upon (6+6) Committee agreement.”

Observers believe that the President of the Council of State is doing nothing but revolving around the orbit of the outgoing Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, who affirmed that he would not leave his position except for an elected government. Therefore, “the longer the wasted time in disputes and negotiations, Dbeibeh remains in his position, clearly indicating that the provision in the (6+6) Committee agreement regarding the formation of a new government will not materialize on the ground,” according to what was published by the newspaper “Makkah.”

There is circumvention of the UN envoy’s initiative after the approval of both the House of Representatives, the Presidential Council, and the General Command of the Armed Forces to participate in it.

Libya has been in rampant chaos since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011, with two competing governments; one controlling the west of the country with its headquarters in Tripoli, led by Dbeibeh, and another controlling the east, led by Osama Hammad, appointed by the House of Representatives.
