Houthis block Communication lines between Sanaa and the government regions
Combats in the Marib province, east of the Yemeni capital Sanaa, continue to finish the Iran-backed Houthi militias. Severe combat continued on Saturday, particularly in western and northwestern parts of the province. Meanwhile, the national army is continuing to make advances in the southwestern Taiz province.
Indeed, the Houthis keeps ignoring international and United Nations appeals for calm in Marib and demands for a ceasefire that would facilitate the way for peace discussions.
However, the legitimate government doubted on the authenticity of these appeals after that the militias increased their attacks with the international community’s failure to take any decision to prevent them.
On his part, Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani stated: The Houthi escalation demonstrates that its decision to go to war does not lie in its hands and that it is simply a proxy to carry out Iran’s expansionist agenda.
He also said that the Houthis are just an armed proxy of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and that they are being managed by Tehran’s so-called envoy in Sanaa, accusing the militias of offending Saudi Arabia and threatening international marine navigation.
Furthermore, al-Eryani indicated that the Houthis increased their attacks after the US administration of Joe Biden decided to cancel the militias’ terrorist classification.
He noted that this proves that the militias do not believe in peace and their ideology is based on killing, making them unqualified to play a constructive role in peace.
He called the international community to blacklist the Houthis and provide serious support for the government in its efforts to cease their coup and recuperate the Yemeni state.
According to the minister, the Houthis detached communication lines connecting Sanaa that is under their control, with government-held regions, including Marib. While, observers considered the move as reprisal to the militias’ losses on the ground and failure to advance in oil- and gas-rich Marib.
Besides, field sources informed Asharq Al-Awsat that the Yemeni military, with air cover from the Saudi-led Arab coalition, prevented on Saturday new Houthi attacks in western and northwester Marib, and military media stated that more than 83 militants were killed in the clashes that lasted more than 35 hours.
Also, a military spokesman stated that the army’s strategy has succeeded in diminishing Houthi forces. In Taiz, the army liberated many hills in the southeastern front as the militias retreated from the area. The military has launched operations in Taiz that has been surrounded by the Houthis for years.
