UAE relies on industrial revolution to manage energy demand
UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Al-Mazroui said the ministry renewed its commitment to unify efforts in the area of energy and water conservation.
“Based on their long-term approach to planning for the future of energy and water, the ministry led the country’s efforts to achieve sustainable resources through the formulation of the 2050 energy strategy and the 2036 water security strategy, which are indicators of the strength and maturity of the energy and water sectors in the UAE,” he said
“We aim to increase efficiency by 40% for the most important three energy-consuming sectors, transportation, industry and construction,” Al-Mazroui said in a special statement on the occasion of the launch of the National Program for Managing Demand for Energy and Water.
The ministry is keen to keep pace with the fourth industrial revolution and is aware of the technological developments that support the ministry’s approach to managing energy and water demand, he said, as part of the ministry’s vision to be one of the world’s leading players.
“As part of our future approaches, we will focus on raising the efficiency of the two sectors, and integrating efforts between the various government, federal and local authorities, as well as the private sector, to look into modern solutions and innovations that support the UAE’s drive to reduce energy and water consumption in the sectors of transport, industry and construction,” he said.
The UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure indicated that the ministry will strive to support the national program for managing demand for energy and water and rationalizing consumption. He emphasized that the program is a national action plan that brings together all relevant authorities in the UAE to achieve the most important targets set in the 2050 energy strategy, which aims to raise the efficiency of individual and institutional consumption by 40%.
“We aim to raise the contribution of clean energy to the total energy mix produced in the country to 50% by 2050. We aim to increase water security strategy in 2036, to reduce total demand for water resources by 21%, to reduce water scarcity by 3 degrees, and to increase the rate of reuse of treated water to 95%,” he said
The UAE aims to continue the process of sustainable development by harnessing all resources and potential and investing in exceptional expertise, minds and competencies to develop the energy and water sectors, he said, in a way that fulfills the government’s aspirations and serves its vital interests, as well as its effective and sustainable practices to improve energy and water efficiency on both supply and demand sides, as these are crucial to global development.
