Yemen official: Seasonal heavy rain killed 13 people
Security officials said on Saturday that due to heavy seasonal rains, floods swept parts of Yemen, killing at least 13 people, including two children.
The Officials said that the Fatalities were reported in the provinces of Sana’a, Ibb, Shabwa and Hodeida, where it started to rain late last month.
According to the Associated Press, they remain anonymous because they do not have the right to brief the media.
Heavy rains also pelted the provinces of Aden, Taiz and Hadramout, where flooding damaged houses and vehicles, they said. Rescuers managed to save some residents trapped in their cars.
The Yemen National Meteorological Center recently issued a statement warning Yemenis to stay away from the flood pipeline in the affected area and take necessary precautions. The rainy season in Yemen runs from April to August.
Last year, floods in Yemen caused dozens of deaths and tens of thousands of people were forced to leave their homes.
