Sudanese minister : This is why Sudan’s relationship with the UAE is strategic
Sudanese Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Khaled Omar, has praised the UAE support to Sudan, pointing out that his recent visit resulted in an agreement to supply Sudan with fuel in an easy-term format. We reached a preliminary consensus, followed by a visit by a delegation from the Ministry of Energy to meet directly in Abu Dhabi to transform the agreement into a legal and commercial format.
During an interview with Al-Ain, the minister noted that discussions during the visit touched on the border issue between Sudan, Ethiopia and Al-Nahda Dam. The United Arab Emirates has sought to calm the two issues, and we have reiterated to the United Arab Emirates Sudan’s commitment to intensify relations in accordance with the 1972 Agreement.
He added: Regarding the issue of Al-Nahda Dam, we explained the position of the Sudan that filling and operating must be done according to a legal agreement binding on all parties. We found understanding on the part of the Emirates of the Sudanese position, and promises to exert efforts to end the tension with Addis Abeba by finding solutions to the outstanding issues between the two countries.
Bank transfers between Sudan and the UAE were consulted, and it was agreed that the governor of the Central Bank would visit the UAE after Eid al-Fitr to resolve the obstacles that face remittances between the two countries.
On the peace agreement in Juba, the Sudanese minister said: The United Arab Emirates has long expressed its commitment to supporting peace in the Sudan, and it is still committed to this issue. It is only a matter that requires some preparation on the part of the Sudanese side to identify the sites that need support to implement the peace agreement.
The Sudanese minister stressed that the UAE is a sister country and has social and cultural relations with Sudan, saying : There are certainly ties of interests between the two countries, and the revolution has provided a new opportunity to rebuild healthy relations with all the countries of the world.
“Meanwhile, the Sudanese minister noted the government’s intention to hand over el-Bechir to the International Criminal Court, as a result of the Juba agreement.”
The Sudanese minister noted that the pursuit of the Brotherhood abroad has begun, and the options are open to Al-Nahda Dam.
Internationally, the Sudan is open to building objective and balanced relations, free from the polarization imposed by the intensity of competition among the great Powers.
