10 ISIS members are facing security threats in northern Iraq


On Saturday, Iraqi security authorities announced the arrest of 10 ISIS members operatives in the northern province of Kirkouk.

The Security Media Cell said that in a statement, a copy of which was obtained by al-Ain News : “According to precise intelligence information, units of the Iraqi Intelligence Agency and the Federal Investigations Department in the Ministry of the Interior have arrested 10 terrorists wanted in accordance with the provisions of Article 4 (terrorism) for belonging to ISIS terrorist gangs as sleeper cells in Kirkouk province.”

“The captured elements are divided between fighters and ISIS elements within the so-called Kirkouk sector and are providing logistical support to the group,” the statement said.

The detainees “confessed before the security forces and the judiciary, and legal proceedings were taken against them”, he said.

Earlier today, a local official stated that fishermen were killed in an explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED) in the province of Salah El-Din, in the center of the country.

“An improvised explosive device (IED) exploded this morning, killing two people who were fishing at Lake Shai in the village of Daraweesh in Salah El-Din province,” the source told Al-Ain News.

“The IED was planted by ISIS and aimed at terrorizing the civilian population and destabilizing security,” the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“A security force rushed to the scene and carried out a search for the perpetrators, while an ambulance took the bodies of the two dead to the forensic medicine department,” the source said.

Iraq’s northern provinces, as well as some areas in the east and west of the country, are witnessing terrorist attacks by IS elements, often targeting civilians and security posts.

Iraqi security forces have been pursuing the group through a series of successive military operations under the air cover of the US-led international coalition.
