Corruption and profit.. Arrest warrant for a Brotherhood leader in Tunisia
Tunisia’s first anti-corruption organization, ”I Watch”, said on Monday that a Tunisian court had issued an arrest warrant against a Brotherhood leader.
According to the NGO, the investigating judge in the Tunisian court “Ben Arous” issued an arrest warrant for Adel al-Daadaa, a leader of the Brotherhood’s Ennahdha party, on corruption charges.
The organization said in a statement that this decision came after the former member of the Shura Council of the Brotherhood’s Ennahdha Movement did not respond to the call of the Central Division of the National Guard on two occasions, which forced the competent authority to “issue a warrant to force him to testify about the charges against him.”
In June 2020, ”I Watch” published an investigation into the case of Adel Da’da, who exploited his proximity to Ennahda for personal gain.
Ennahdha’s leader, ”I Watch”, said, required a $2 million fee to pay for services that violated the law.
The organization stressed that “the need for all political parties to withdraw from any interference in this issue, in order to respect the course of justice and ensure the principle of a fair trial, which is the right of the just defender who enjoys the presumption of innocence and should be treated as equal litigants regardless of his party or athletic affiliations.”
Ennahdha faces charges of interfering in the judiciary to serve its own narrow interests, particularly in corruption and terrorism cases. The defense of politicians Chokri Belaid and Mohamed Brahmi recently revealed the involvement of the Brotherhood in penetrating some of the judicial bodies to influence the progress of the cases.
