UAE, Syria agree on plans to boost economic cooperation
The UAE and Syria have agreed on plans to boost economic cooperation and explore new sectors, the UAE Ministry of Economy said Sunday.
The ministry said in a tweet that non-oil trade between the two countries reached one billion dirhams in the first half of 2021.
The UAE Ministry of Economy said in a statement on its Twitter account that “Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, the UAE Minister of Economy, reviewed with Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammed Samer Khalil future plans to strengthen economic cooperation and explore opportunities in new sectors.”
“The UAE is Syria’s most important trading partner at the global level, with the UAE’s share of Syria’s foreign trade standing at around 14%,” the ministry said.
“The volume of non-oil trade exchange between the UAE and Syria during the first half of 2021 recorded about one billion dirhams,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the volume of non-oil trade last year was 2.6 billion dirhams, while the value of Syrian direct investment in the UAE exceeded 1.5 billion dirhams by the end of 2019.
