Tunisian party calls for freezing Qatar Charity funds
Tunisia’s Free Destourian Party called on the Counter-Terrorism Committee, Friday, to freeze the funds of Qatar Charity due to what it considered suspicions of funding the Brotherhood and money laundering.
- This is how Qatar Charity became a tool to finance Brotherhood groups and their projects
- What role did the leader of Tunisia’s Ennahdha Party Rached Ghannouchi play in Libya?
In a statement, the party said that “in the face of the risks that the pumping of such huge financial resources in the country without censorship on the course of its disbursement in light of the announced assassination plans, and what the Brotherhood in Tunisia is preparing to wreak havoc and militarize against the state, we renew our request to the head of government to activate Article 45 of the decree of associations against Qatar Charity and the rest of the octopus associated with it, and to close these foreign dens and expel them from Tunisia”.
Tunisian President, Kais Saied, revealed, yesterday, during his supervision of the meeting of the Council of Ministers, the existence of “conspiracies” led by “traitors” who he said had “worked for foreign intelligence” to assassinate Tunisian officials.
Saied spoke of “plots” being hatched in Tunisia, some even suggesting assassination. “He alerts Tunisians to what is being planned today by traitors who are working for foreign intelligence services to assassinate a number of officials”, he said.
The Free Destourian Party held the state responsible for any chaos or national security disruption, “for its failure to stop the hemorrhaging of foreign funding by organizations known for its funding and support of terrorist organizations around the world and for allowing suspicious organizations to operate inside the country under the cover of charitable work and parallel education”.
The party also demanded the Minister of Social Affairs to disclose the list of social guarantees carried out by Qatar Charity, and to open an investigation on the way funds are allocated and the criteria of the adoption of guarantees and the way they are spent, and their relationship with the Brotherhood organization that ruled the country during the black decade, and to stop such degrading dealings for the Tunisian people, who does not accept the security from abroad and does not accept loyalty other than the national flag.
It called on the National Committee for Combating Terrorism to freeze the funds received from “this suspicious association, scrutinize its disbursements, and refer its file, together with the files of other dangerous Brotherhood associations and others, to the attention of the public prosecution to investigate them and uncover the truth about the crude foreign interventions in our country”.
The party also called for classifying “these associations into a list of individuals concerned with terrorist crimes and money laundering”.
Since 2012, Qatar Charity has been working in Tunisia on several activities and partnership agreements with several ministries, most notably the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health.
