Abyan Coast Under Southern Forces’ Watchful Eyes: Vigilance and a Firm Hand Against Al-Qaeda

The Southern Forces have redeployed their units to secure the coastal strip while continuing to pursue Al-Qaeda terrorist groups in Yemen’s Abyan province.

The official television of the Southern Transitional Council, Aden Independent, stated on Thursday in a report that its forces have deployed and swept through four valleys as part of a new strategy aimed at tracking and eliminating Al-Qaeda’s terrorist groups and securing the province’s coastal strip overlooking the Arabian Sea.

It was clarified that Southern Forces were deployed in the valleys of Tasbah, Qatman, Mafraq Rasras, Ardzaq, Al-Radha, and Naseel in the northeastern part of the province.

The joint campaign also succeeded in regaining control of the strategic site of Aqabat Al-Dhiraa, which had been a stronghold of Al-Qaeda elements in northeastern Abyan, marking further progress in the “Siham Al-Sharq” operation launched in 2022.

This extensive deployment comes in response to an armed ambush by Al-Qaeda targeting security patrols on the international road, resulting in the death of four soldiers and the capture of others last December.

Following the attack, Southern Forces launched a counteroffensive, regaining full control of the Siri valley in the Khabar Al-Maraqisha area of Khanfar District, which had served as an Al-Qaeda camp.

The Southern Forces involved in the extended operation stated that Al-Qaeda elements fled “via the Khalif-Mahfad secondary road” and are continuing their efforts to pursue and destroy their hideouts.

Al-Qaeda’s cowardly actions, including assassinations, ambushes, planting of improvised explosive devices, and suspicious movements in the province and along Abyan’s coastline, have escalated, according to the same source.
