After calling him a ”Killer”, Biden backs down: Putin is a smart guy
U.S. President Joe Biden has called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin “smart and tough,” backing away from earlier accusations that Putin is a “killer.”
President Biden said during a press conference on Monday evening, at the end of the NATO summit in Brussels, that President Putin is a smart, tough, and adversary person worth it, and I will explain to him the red lines in areas where we do not agree.
In a statement against diplomatic norms, US President Joe Biden said earlier that he believed that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin was a “killer” and warned that he would “pay for” his actions.
The statement came as the famous broadcaster, George Stephanopoulos, gave a direct question to Biden in a March interview to ABC television if he considered the Russian president a “killer”. Biden replied, ”Yes, I believe”.
Hours before the expected meeting between Putin and Biden on Wednesday, Biden added that we do not seek conflict with Russia, but we will respond if it continues its hostile actions, especially since Moscow and Beijing want to split NATO.
On Afghanistan, Biden said that there is a strong consensus among NATO leaders on Afghanistan, our troops will return from Afghanistan, but our support for the army and security forces there will continue.
He stressed the need to fight corruption, strengthen institutions protecting our democracy and principles, and defend freedom of the press and the judiciary.
