Al-Burhan announced a major change in Sudanese army command
The chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, announced on Thursday a major reshuffle of the country’s military leadership.
The change includes commanders of ground forces, operations and logistics, as well as the army’s inspector general, according to Reuters.
The Air Force leadership change had been announced earlier, while the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mohammed Othman al-Hussein, remained in office.
This represents the biggest change in the military’s leadership since the actions of al-Burhan and other senior officers on 25 October ended a transitional partnership with civilian political groups.
Earlier, al-Burhan expressed his “regret that three years of the transitional period were wasted in what he described as “political chauvinism”, pointing to “the need to pay attention to the real issues of citizens and pay attention to them.”
Meanwhile, the political forces participating in the street protests believe that the solution to the crisis lies in “ending all the consequences of the October 25 measures, continuing to dismantle the empowerment of the Brotherhood regime, and unifying the army, according to agreed professional foundations.”
