Al-Burhan: We will not participate in the political negotiations in Sudan
The head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, announced that the army decided not to participate in the ongoing negotiations to make way for the political and revolutionary forces to form a competent government.
“We hope that the political forces will engage in an immediate dialog”, al-Burhan said. Our armed forces will not be an instrument for any political party to govern the country.
The armed forces are committed to working with all components of the Sudanese people.
“The sovereignty council will be dissolved and a supreme council of the armed forces will be formed, including the army and rapid support”, he said.
Al-Burhan also said, “We confirm that the armed forces stand by the democratic transition and the arrival of elections”.
The tripartite mechanism seeks to resolve an acute crisis in Sudan since October 25, when Army Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan made extraordinary decisions to dissolve the transitional government, impose a state of emergency and freeze some articles of the constitutional document.
The tripartite mechanism of the African Union, the United Nations and the East African Development Organization is leading a dialog between the various political factions to emerge from the crisis.
