Al-Shabaab Nearing the End, Somali Army Defeats Terrorism

The Somali army continues to achieve successes in its operations against the al-Shabaab terrorist group in southern and central Somalia.

Between liberating the towns from the terrorist group’s control and wiping out its members, al-Shabaab is now a step from the end.

New Proceeds of Operations

The latest of these successes was announced by the Somali army, which confirmed that it carried out a swift military operation in which 10 terrorists from the terrorist organization were killed in the governorate of Galgudud in the center of the country.

The operation took place between the villages of Ali Ybal and Osweini, which were recently recaptured from al-Shabaab, he said.

According to the official Voice of the Army radio, the army seized six light and heavy machine guns.

In Lower Shabelle province, the Somali army recaptured four towns in an operation against al-Shabaab militants.

The operation was carried out by special forces from the Somali “commandos” in cooperation with the popular resistance.

Military officials said the forces also destroyed fake al-Shabaab checkpoints and courts that extorted money from people and public vehicles.

Largest Military Operation

The operations come as the Somali army prepares to launch its largest military operation against al-Shabaab in the coming days.

The forces are currently setting rules of engagement and delineating the next confrontation lines through combing operations based on adjacent areas in the remaining pockets under al-Shabaab terrorist control.

The terrorist group al-Shabaab is unable to confront the Somali army and the popular resistance directly, and resorts to indirect confrontation tactics such as withdrawing from cities and launching surprise attacks on army bases and civilian barracks that are involved in the battles against the terrorist organization.

Somali authorities announced that 6,700 terrorists have been killed and injured since last August, in addition to the liberation of 70 areas, which constitute one third of the territory in proportion to the size of the organization’s areas of control.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has officially announced the start of the second phase of military operations against al-Shabaab to eradicate it.
