An African plan to get out of Sudan’s political crisis
Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan received on Saturday a written message from the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki, concerning the Union’s vision on the political developments in Sudan and ways to get out of the crisis that the country is witnessing.
The African Envoy, Commissioner for Peace and Security, Adewi Bankoli, who delivered the message, confirmed in a press statement the readiness of the African Union to support political consensus among all political parties for the achievement of the political transition in the Sudan.
Bankoli stressed the commitment of the AU, in consultation with the government, stakeholders and all community components, to a peaceful and viable political solution.
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission expressed the African Union’s concern about the situation in the Sudan, as one of the founding States of the African Union, and noted the Union’s commitment to respect the sovereignty of the Sudan.
The African Union Commissioner called for the renunciation of violence and the prevalence of national interest in the Sudan, noting that strong will is required from all parties.
The African Union was keen to reach an agreement with all international partners and the international community to end the political crisis in the Sudan without encroaching on the role of the African Union in that regard.
