Britain, the United States, Germany and France urge compliance with the truce in Syria
Britain, the United States, France and Germany welcomed on Tuesday the extension of the 15-day ceasefire between Damascus and the Syrian Democratic Forces.
The four countries urged all parties to strictly adhere to the agreement.
In a joint statement, they said: “We call on all parties to strictly respect the ceasefire and to exercise the utmost restraint. We urge all external actors to join us in the pursuit of peace and the de-escalation of violence.”
The statement also called on all parties to quickly agree on a permanent ceasefire.
Last Saturday, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced the extension of the truce with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) for 15 days, in support of the US-led operation to evacuate Islamic State detainees from prisons.
The Ministry of Defense stated on its X account that the extension began on Saturday at 11 a.m. local time, and that it comes in support of evacuating IS detainees from SDF prisons and transferring them to Iraq.
On January 18, the Syrian government and the SDF signed an agreement providing for a ceasefire and the integration of the group’s members and institutions into the Syrian state apparatus, but mutual accusations of violating the agreement have prevented its implementation.
