Climate neutrality strategy and COP 28 vision… UAE hotels implement sustainability initiatives
In preparation for the UAE’s hosting of the COP28 climate summit, President Sheik Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan affirmed that 2023 will be a year of sustainability, as it is the culmination of the UAE’s broad efforts domestically, regionally and globally to protect against climate change and diversify the economy with the goal of a sustainable future.
UAE Hotel Sector
The campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of coral reefs in the marine ecosystem while contributing to the size of the UAE coast. This is especially true since the hotel sector in the UAE is one of the most important sectors in the country, and this is reflected in local projects and initiatives aimed at creating an artificial coral reef opposite the coast of Fujairah The Conference of the Parties (COP) COP 28.
Sustainability criteria
Among the most important initiatives taken by the UAE as a path and goal to support the environment are initiatives to reduce energy and water consumption, adopt clean technologies, improve operational efficiency, raise the use of recyclable materials and manage and reduce waste, prepare sustainable organic farm meals, digitize, and participate in initiatives with associations and institutions concerned with the environment to preserve the marine environment, sustainable products, organic agriculture, urban forestry and support communities through social responsibility. The UAE hotels have achieved the sustainability criteria set by the World Travel and Tourism Council, which set 12 sustainability criteria in the hotel sector and which is a comprehensive guide for hotels to apply sustainability in their hotels, to ensure that guests enjoy sustainable and high-quality products.
Static Steps
In the same context, sustainability is a cornerstone of any project. Therefore, with the continued expansion of hotels in the region and the United Arab Emirates being one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the world, the state is moving steadily to ensure that guests enjoy sustainable, high-quality products that will give them unrivaled experience. As part of efforts to strengthen the UAE’s commitment to raising environmental awareness, hotels have increased their use of recyclable materials by 8%, reduced their waste disposal in landfills by 17%, and reduced their consumption of electric power by 8%.
