Defense Committee for Belaid and Brahmi is in favor of the surrender of Kaïs Saïed to the prosecution

The Tunisian Defense Authority has endorsed the extradition of two assassinated political opponents, Chokri Belaid and Mohamed Brahmi, who extract President Kaïs Saïed from the country’s public prosecutor’s office, calling the decision “legal”.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Belaid’s and Brahmi’s defense team said that the Tunisian president’s decision to head the public prosecution was a “legal measure”.

The Commission highlighted the judicial and legal problems encountered in the course of the investigations into the two murders and accused Ennahdha of obstructing the investigations to prevent the identity of those involved from being identified.

The defense committee for Belaid and Brahmi called for an investigation into Ennahdha for “obstructing the course of investigations and uncovering those involved.”

The defense committee for Belaid and Brahmi had previously confirmed that it had provided sufficient evidence since February 2019, which implicated Rached Ghannouchi in the political assassinations in Tunisia in 2013.

Both Belaid and Brahmi, a leading opponent of the Ennahdha-led government in the 2011 elections, were assassinated by gunmen in front of their residence.

The defense of Belaid and Brahmi accuses Ennahdha of being politically responsible for the assassinations, while Ennahdha denies any involvement.
