Echo-less rumors: Egyptians’ awareness foils the Muslim Brotherhood’s plan ahead of the January 25 anniversary
The Muslim Brotherhood, designated as a terrorist organization, continues to spread rumors aimed at undermining the stability of the Egyptian state.
Despite the failure of all its attempts since it was rejected by Egyptians in 2013, the group periodically resorts to spreading such rumors in a desperate effort to exploit any opportunity to return to Egypt’s political scene.
The latest of these rumors involved a video circulated on one of the social media accounts linked to members of the Muslim Brotherhood who are in exile abroad. The video included images calling for gatherings in several governorates.
However, Egypt’s Ministry of Interior categorically denied the claims, stressing that the images were fabricated and outdated, that they had been previously examined, and that the necessary legal measures had already been taken against those responsible.
The ministry stated that such actions fall within the long-standing pattern of the terrorist group’s behavior, which relies on fabricating falsehoods and spreading rumors in an attempt to undermine the state of stability enjoyed by the country. It added that legal procedures are currently being pursued against those promoting these allegations.
A senior security source said that the Muslim Brotherhood habitually launches rumors calling for gatherings every year as the January 25 anniversary approaches, but that the awareness of the Egyptian people usually succeeds in thwarting these attempts.
The source added that the group continues to seek to destabilize the country through various rumors, sometimes targeting the economic situation, at other times the political landscape, and on other occasions the conditions of inmates in rehabilitation and correction centers, in addition to persistent efforts to tarnish the image of the police and the armed forces.
The source emphasized that the Egyptian people are fully aware of what the terrorist group is attempting to do in terms of returning to the political arena, and that all such efforts are shattered by popular awareness, after Egyptians came to understand the group’s objectives and witnessed its crimes against their fellow citizens.
It was also noted that spreading rumors is a deliberate and systematic method consistently used by the Muslim Brotherhood to disseminate its propaganda among Egyptians, particularly via social media platforms, through the creation of numerous fake accounts designed to distort facts and manipulate public sentiment with repeated falsehoods.
The source stressed that the Ministry of Interior is keen to respond swiftly to such rumors in order to confront the psychological and media warfare waged by the terrorist group, aimed at damaging the image of national institutions.
