Egypt announces UAE efforts to ensure the safety of its remaining soldiers in Sudan
Egypt announced on Thursday the success of its efforts in coordination with the United Arab Emirates to ensure the safety of the remaining soldiers in Sudan held by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The two brotherly countries expressed their appreciation to the International Red Cross for its efforts in supporting the process of securing the safety of Egyptian soldiers, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
“This step comes within the framework of the two countries’ position in support of the truce through continuous communication with the Sudanese parties to ensure restraint, de-escalation and a return to the political track,” the foreign ministries of Egypt and the UAE said in a statement.
The two ministries affirmed “the commitment of the two countries to continue their efforts aimed at ending the fighting and protecting civilians and civilian facilities.”
The statement stressed “the importance of intensifying efforts aimed at returning to the political framework and dialog to resolve all differences and move forward on the transitional phase, with a view to achieving the desired political and security stability in Sudan.”
Soldier return details
Earlier on Thursday, the Egyptian army revealed details of the return of the soldiers from Sudan, pointing out that the rest of the elements had secured their arrival at the Egyptian embassy in Khartoum in preparation for their evacuation.
“In light of the current events in Sudanese territory and in close cooperation between all the security agencies of the two countries for the safe return of the Egyptian forces participating in the joint training, all necessary coordination measures were taken with the Sudanese authorities on Wednesday for the landing of three military transport planes at an airport in Sudanese territory,” the Egyptian army said in a statement.
He added, “The mission of evacuating the Egyptian forces took place in the context of comprehensive security measures for the troops, taking off from Sudanese territory via three consecutive flights for most of the Egyptian forces and returning them to one of the Egyptian air military bases in Cairo.”
