Emirati-American-Belgian Talks: Aid for Gaza and De-escalation 


The United Arab Emirates continues its diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to de-escalate the situation in the region.

On Friday, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Barbara Leaf, Assistant U.S. Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, and Haidi Lahbib, the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade and Cultural Institutions of Belgium.

In the meeting held in Abu Dhabi with the Assistant U.S. Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, they discussed the current situation in the Middle East and civil society’s efforts to protect all civilians from the crisis’s consequences.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Barbara Leaf also discussed ways to provide sustainable humanitarian and medical aid to civilians.

The discussions also covered regional and international efforts to end escalating extremism, violence, and tension in the region and how to intensify efforts to de-escalate.

They also agreed to continue coordination and consultation regarding the current crisis.

De-escalation and Joint Cooperation 

In his meeting with the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade and Cultural Institutions of Belgium in Abu Dhabi, the UAE’s Foreign Minister discussed the developments in the Middle East and ways to end escalating extremism, tension, and violence, and protect all civilians.

They addressed the necessary mechanisms to ensure the sustainable delivery of humanitarian and medical aid to civilians as part of efforts to enhance the humanitarian response to their needs.

In addition, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Belgian Foreign Minister exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and its security and humanitarian consequences.

They emphasized the importance of regional and international efforts to protect all civilians, advance the path of de-escalation, and intensify the efforts to restore security and stability to the region.

They also discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and their joint cooperation in several areas, including the economy, trade, investment, and energy.

In addition, they discussed cooperation in the fields of the environment and climate, in the context of the United Arab Emirates hosting this year’s United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change “COP28” in Dubai Expo City.
