Erdogan regime cuts subsidies for 80% of people with disabilities

The Turkish people are paying the price for the government’s failure to address an economic crisis blamed on the ruling Justice and Development Party of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which is shutting down the last vestiges of state subsidies for people with special needs.

A dissenting member of the Turkish parliament revealed that the government cut subsidies to 80% of people with special needs.

Turkish Republican People’s Party MP Mustafa Ediguozel said in a statement: “The AKP government cut the home-care salary of beneficiaries under the 2019 regulation”.

He added: The authorities “excluded 80% of those already classified as special needs, and allocated a subsidy under the Adult Disability Assessment Regulation”.

Information received from the regional offices of the Ministry of Family and Social Policy and complaints from persons with special needs confirmed this fact, which was useful, as the regional offices had complained to the Ministry about this situation and were awaiting a solution, but the Ministry had not proposed any solutions to this situation.

He described the list’s classification of people with special needs as a “total disability” and a “partial disability”, saying: “What do you base on this classification? Does any other country apply this classification? Unfortunately, no”.

He pointed out that the Western countries and the European Union allocated 3% of their budgets for social benefits, while: “Currently only 1% is allocated in Turkey. We promise to triple this ratio” if we access to authority.
