Explosions near Iran’s Bouchehr nuclear plant
A huge explosion was heard near Iran’s Bouchehr plant, and while expectations were high that the plant would be targeted or bombed inside, similar to the series of mysterious explosions and fires in Iran, Mohammad Taqieddine Irani, Deputy Governor of Bouchehr in Iran for political and security affairs, told Iran’s Fars News Agency: “The sound of explosions was due to an air defense exercise to increase the capabilities of the defense system”.
Mohammad Taqi Irani told Fars News Agency: “The exercise took place at 5 a.m. local time, with full preparation and coordination with the armed forces”, Reuters reported.
“Indirect talks between Iran and the United States to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, from which the United States withdrew three years ago, have resumed and imposed severe sanctions on Tehran”.
The negotiations are witnessing tensions and an unfavorable atmosphere indicating the inability to reach consensus.
Russia built the Bouchehr plant, supplied it with a reactor producing about 1,000 megawatts of energy, and officially delivered it to Iran in September 2013 after years of delay.
“In 2016, Iranian and Russian companies began building two additional 1,000-megawatt reactors at the plant, which are estimated to take 10 years to complete”.
