Federal National Council member: Sultan Al Jaber is the right man for the success of “COP 28”
Federal National Council member Mohamed Ahmed Al Yamahi said that the UAE’s hosting of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in 2023 enhances the world’s confidence in its efforts and initiatives to combat climate change and its ability to effect positive change to ensure a future based on sustainable development.
In a special statement to 24, Al Yamahi noted that the UAE is making continuous efforts to face the challenges of global sustainability, and was one of the first countries to sign and ratify the Paris Climate Agreement, in addition to committing and adopting plans to reduce emissions at an economic level. It launched its Climate Strategy Initiative “Climate Neutrality by 2050” with the goal of achieving zero carbon emissions, which is a proof of its commitment and contribution to global environmental mobility.
The Right Man
The decision to assign Dr. Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Jaber as the president-designate of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) affirms the important role of the UAE leadership in selecting competent individuals, with academic and practical experience, and puts the right man in the right place, he said.
High confidence
Al Yamahi said, “Al Jaber’s selection of this task confirms high confidence in his extensive experience in the field of sustainability and climate change, his great capabilities to make COP28 a success, and the leadership of the intergovernmental process to extend bridges of communication and cooperation with the international community to reach practical solutions that will bring long-term economic and social benefits to the region and the world, especially after the damage caused by climate change and the loss of biodiversity.”
