Former Muslim Brotherhood member attacks Ghannouchi: He & retire from politics and leave Tunisia
A former Ennahdha leader attacked its leader Rached Ghannouchi after he made a speech calling for chaos and calling on him to “retire from politics.”
Imed Hammami, a former Brotherhood leader, noted that Ghannouchi’s recent statements include an explicit call for internal fighting and that he must leave Tunisia.
During a recent television interview, Ghannouchi called for a repetition of what happened in 2011, saying, “We must quickly pass and save Tunisia as we did in 2011,” in a veiled message to his supporters to sow chaos and anarchy in order to return to power.
The 81-year-old leader of the Brotherhood’s Ennahdha Party, who is facing charges of terrorism, murder and financial corruption, added that the parliament, dissolved since July 25, 2021, “still retains its legitimacy, and is the only legitimate institution representing the legislative and regulatory authority.”
“Rached Ghannouchi continues his policy of denial and is determined to push the country towards civil war,” Imed Hammami said Thursday in a radio program broadcast on Tunisia’s Diwan FM radio station.
Rached Ghannouchi has become sick, and I call on him to retire from political life and leave Tunisia.
Imed Hammami, a Tunisian politician who held several positions in Tunisia’s Ennahdha movement, was a deputy in the National Constituent Assembly between 2011 and 2014, and was appointed minister of employment and vocational training in the government of Youssef Chahed on 27 August 2016.
He resigned from the Brotherhood’s Ennahdha after the Brotherhood parliament was overthrown on July 25, 2021.
