From Displacement Camps to UN Facilities: In Gaza, No One Is Spared

Displacement tents and international organization headquarters are no longer safe havens for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The scope of Israeli bombardments has expanded to indiscriminately target all areas and individuals, signaling the collapse of any remaining humanitarian red lines.

Early Tuesday morning, at least 12 civilians were killed and dozens injured in an Israeli airstrike on the Beach Camp, west of Gaza City. Simultaneously, the residence of World Health Organization (WHO) staff and the organization’s central warehouse in Deir al-Balah were repeatedly targeted, affecting aid workers and their families.

As the escalation continues, casualties are mounting among displaced populations and humanitarian staff. International organizations are increasingly warning of a disaster unfolding beyond the boundaries of international law and humanitarian norms.

Direct shelling of displacement tents

Gaza’s Ministry of Health reported that two shells fired by Israeli tanks stationed north of the Beach Camp landed directly on tents housing displaced families, resulting in another massacre of civilians who had already fled their original homes to escape bombings. Paramedics confirmed that most of the victims were women and children.

The Israeli military has not issued a statement about this attack so far, despite growing international criticism regarding strikes on civilians and refugee shelters.

WHO headquarters under attack

In a related development, the World Health Organization announced that its staff residence and main warehouse in Deir al-Balah were hit three times on Monday. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the attacks occurred during ongoing Israeli military operations in the area.

He added that two WHO staff members and two of their family members were arrested during the raids. Three of them have since been released, while one remains in Israeli custody.

The organization warned that such attacks endanger humanitarian workers and severely undermine aid efforts in a region already experiencing a total collapse of its health infrastructure.

New ground incursion in southern Deir al-Balah

These developments coincide with the first incursion of Israeli tanks into the southern and eastern neighborhoods of Deir al-Balah. Israeli media described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to locate potential hostages believed to be held in the area.

This military action significantly increases the risks for civilians. United Nations agencies have warned that any large-scale ground offensive in Deir al-Balah — one of the last densely populated areas for displaced people in central Gaza — could result in a “total humanitarian catastrophe.”
