Hemeti calls for showing sincerity of intentions in implementing the Juba Agreement
Vice Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council (NTC) General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemeti”, commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), reiterated his country’s commitment to the implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement, calling for sincere intentions in the implementation of this agreement.
In a speech on Sunday evening at the Higher Security Academy in Khartoum, at the end of a workshop to explain the updated matrix of the Juba peace agreement, Hemeti called for the need to pay attention to peace issues, especially the issue of displaced persons and refugees and their return to their villages of origin, according to the Sudanese News Agency.
The vice president of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (NTC) invited all arms-bearing individuals to join the country’s peace process.
He renewed the call for the international community to support the implementation of the agreement, adding: “We, too, must help ourselves, before asking others to help us,” and said: “If the intentions are right, we will implement this agreement,” indicating that its implementation will motivate others to join it.
The 2020 Juba Peace Agreement was reached after 10 months of negotiations in the South Sudanese capital, involving a number of Sudanese armed movements, most notably the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – Northern Malik Agar Wing, the Sudan Liberation Army – Arki Minawi Wing, Jibril Ibrahim’s Justice and Equality Movement, as well as non-armed groups including the Middle, East and North Routes.
On 19 February, the Sudanese government and armed struggle movements signed an updated formula for the implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement in South Sudan’s capital.
