Houthi detains 3 prominent politicians to prevent them from participating in Riyadh consultations

The Houthi militias do not hesitate to torpedo international peace efforts, but have recently extended their reach to prevent and arrest anyone who wants to participate in the Yemeni-Gulf consultations.

Houthi militias arrested three prominent politicians who were on their way to the Saudi capital of Riyadh to attend the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations called for by the Gulf Cooperation Council in Ibb province, central Yemen.

According to Yemeni sources, the so-called “security and intelligence apparatus” of the Houthi terrorist militia arrested researcher and politician Abdul Rahman Al-Alfi, the Secretary General of the Civil Alliance for Peace and Reconciliation Hamoud Al-Awdi, and the spokesman of the same political alliance Anwar Shaab in Ibb.

Prominent Yemeni human rights activist Abdullah al-Alfi said al-Alfi, al-Awdi and Shaab received an invitation from the Gulf Co-operation Council to participate in the consultations as part of the council’s desire to hold Yemeni-Yemeni consultations that pave the way for peace in the country.

He said the political bureau of the Houthi militias had given the three politicians prior approval before the security apparatus, which is most attached to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, intervened and arrested them in Ibb province on their way to the temporary capital of Aden to move to Riyadh.

Hamoud Al-Awdi, one of the detainees, led an initiative in previous years with local figures to open roads between liberated and unliberated areas, especially Dhale road, which links Aden and Sanaa. He said the militias failed in their efforts and blew up most of the vital bridges connecting the province.

The Iranian-backed Houthi militias rejected the Gulf Cooperation Council’s invitation for Yemeni-Yemeni consultations and escalated their terrorist operations in an unprecedented way before they devised a fake truce in an effort to avoid and escape any peace process and end the catastrophe of the war that has blown it up.

The GCC’s call for consultations was widely welcomed by Yemenis, including the presidency, the government, parties, and actors, with the exception of the Houthi militias, which have announced their rejection and escalated their aggression in a series of terrorist attacks on Saudi territory.
