Houthi loots Yemen’s funds to use in war against people: Waddah bin Attiyah

Houthi crimes and violations continue to plunder, steal, dispossess and intimidate many of the Yemeni people, and the Houthi militia has looted Yemeni people’s money and state revenues, most recently oil derivative revenues flowing through Hodeida port since the start of the humanitarian truce.

Houthi Looting

Yemeni Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Muammar al-Eryani called on the international community to put real pressure on the Houthi militia to stop its systematic looting of Yemeni state revenues and obstruct the payment of salaries.

“The Houthis continue to plunder hundreds of billions of Yemen’s revenues without incurring any commitments,” al-Eryani said, noting that total revenues in 2020 reached nearly 2.310 trillion riyals and doubled in 2022.

He warned against attempts to mislead public opinion by repudiating this crime and stopping the payment of the salaries of state employees in areas under its control since 2015. He also called on the legitimate Yemeni government to disburse them, as it continues to loot the public treasury, cash reserves, and hundreds of billions of public revenues and revenues from oil derivatives.

Houthi plans

“The terrorist Houthi militia has worked to loot state revenues and obstruct the payment of salaries to state employees in areas controlled by the Houthi militia, before the militia obstructed the move and prevented the circulation of the national currency in areas under their control, as part of their systematic policies of impoverishment and starvation of citizens, using them as tools of war and trafficking in human suffering,” said Wadah bin Attiyah, a member of the STC National Assembly.

The Yemeni analyst added that according to estimates of the size of the figures and the financial returns that the terrorist group achieves as a result of its control over these resources, and the increase of its collection in record time, while at the same time abandoning its obligations towards spending on public services and paying salaries to employees, all of these matters reveal the reality of this terrorist militia and its terrorism in Yemen in order to implement the Iranian scheme in the region.

The money that is looted goes towards funding the war, he said, and the other part is used to fight the legitimate government economically through currency speculation, using exchange companies, money transfer networks and oil derivative import companies to launder money.
