Houthi terrorism continues… Attempted attack on a ship in the Red Sea

Houthi militias persist in threatening navigation in the Red Sea, which today witnessed a new attempted attack on a ship.

The British “Maritime Trade Operations” received reports of drone sightings and explosions near a ship, approximately 50 nautical miles west of the city of Hodeidah in Yemen, according to a notice posted on the organization’s website.

Bloomberg news agency reported today, Tuesday, that the ship is in contact with coalition forces and has reported that it and its crew are safe, while authorities are currently investigating the report.

It is worth mentioning that Houthi attacks on ships began on November 19th of last year, with the group claiming to target Israeli ships or those associated with Israel, amid the conflict in Gaza.

Houthi militias have carried out more than 100 drone and missile attacks against 10 commercial ships from over 35 different countries in the Red Sea since the start of the conflict in Gaza.

On November 19th of last year, Houthi militias hijacked the “Galaxy Leader” ship and detained its international crew of 25 as hostages, leading Washington to form an international maritime alliance under the “Guardian of Prosperity” initiative to counter Houthi threats to navigation.

These attacks have disrupted a major trade route connecting Europe and North America to Asia through the Suez Canal, causing a sharp increase in container shipping costs as companies seek alternative, often longer routes for transporting their goods.

On December 18th of this year, the United States announced the formation of the “Guardian of Prosperity” alliance involving several countries to deter Houthi attacks in the Red Sea.
