Houthis demanded just 10,000 doses of vaccines
Despite that the registration of hundreds of coronavirus cases on a daily basis in Sanaa and Hodeidah, the Iran-backed Houthi militias have just demanded 10,000 doses of the 360,000 shipment that Yemen has received from COVAX.
It was expected that half of the COVAX lot will sent to regions controlled by the militias, as the spread of the virus in Houthi areas given the absence of any preventive procedures or consciousness between the people.
On his part, the health minister in the legitimate government affirmed that the Houthis have only demanded 10,000 vaccinations, while the rest shipment that should have gone to the militias would be distributed in the regions controlled by the government.
The increase of infected cases in Sanaa and Hodeidah
In the same context, two doctors in Sanaa informed Asharq Al-Awsat that hundreds of new virus cases and dozens of mortalities are being recorded on a daily basis in the capital held by Houthi. They also revealed that the health authorities keep avoid imposing any preventive procedures to fight the pandemic.
There is a closing of Sanaa’s largest treatment facility and infected people could no longer find medical attention. The capital’s full markets have also still open and they become specially packed in the evenings with absence of health precautions. Whereas, the militias are ignoring the virus and kept their sectarian activities at mosques and gatherings to employee fighters for their war effort.
Furthermore, a family in Sanaa informed Asharq Al-Awsat that three of its members infected by the virus in one week. While, another family stated that dozens of people are being buried at local cemeteries on a daily basis. Nobody go to the public hospitals since they are closed by the Houthis and the people could not give treatment at private facilities.
In the coastal city of Hodeidah, it’s claimed that public hospitals reject receive virus patients because they no longer have room for them or due to an absence of materials.
Also, health sector workers affirmed that the militias have actually controlled these hospitals to could treat just their fighters. They refused assertions that the facilities have reached their capacity, indicating that the city’s largest hospital has just received 16 virus cases and only four in another.
