How Are Sudanese Brotherhood Trying to Exploit the Conflict in the Country?

April 2023 is the most prominent month in the world for the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist group, as the group is experiencing internal and external conflicts and decline, starting with the arrest of Rachid Ghannouchi in Tunisia and the intensification of the group’s internal conflict.

The dispute over the Brotherhood’s Supreme Guide continues to simmer between the two groups, with Supreme Guide Salah Abdul Haq delivering a video speech this month.

Private sources within the group’s corridors confirmed the disagreement over Abdul Haq’s speech on the revolution in Egypt, and the position of the group from it. The sources did not differ much from the document of priorities issued during the late era of his predecessor, Ibrahim Munir.

Mounir’s Document Stirs Conflict Within the Community

The Muslim Brotherhood released the Priorities Document in 2022, a paper in response to a strategy developed by the group’s other wing that outlines lasting revolutionary strategies, not abandoning the struggle for power, and adhering to confrontation as a legitimate and historical imperative, under the title of “Before Seeing.” Despite their divergence in some points and priorities, they are largely in line.

The document is the first to be circulated after the acting leader of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, Ibrahim Mounir, said in an interview with Reuters in 2022 that the group would not enter a new power struggle.

Since then, the group has been on fire, according to sources within the group. The exclusion of competition through Islamic funds has not satisfied the Brotherhood’s young people who are looking to return to Egypt and resume political work.

In mid-2022, the Shura Council of the Brotherhood announced that Ibrahim Mounir had dissociated himself from the Brotherhood and no longer expressed or represented the Brotherhood. All he published was an individual vision that did not reflect the Muslim Brotherhood, according to the text of an official statement.

The group’s leader, Salah Abdul Haq, said in a video interview on April 13, 2023, that the revolution and the group’s position are part of it, and that politics is a religious and national duty that should not be neglected, but the goal of the political mission is not to ask for the government, but to reform the government, even if its demand does not condemn those who seek it.

He said that the Brotherhood participated in the Egyptian revolution, provided much, and encouraged young people to it, but the failure occurred because it did not take into account the real reasons that the founder spoke about, namely: that the revolution have a leadership, and that it have a road map.

Abdul Haq said that choosing the right situation, using the utmost wisdom and enforcing it in a lighter way is more meaningful in terms of purpose, which is why the calculations of Hassan El-Banna were careful and complicated, and that each step leads to the next one. There is no time to lose, and no time for experiments.
This has once again opened the door for disputes within the group, especially between the London and Istanbul fronts and the Youth Front, who believe that the non-revolutionary movement is a product of the old age of the current Guide Abdul Haq, and that new blood must be pumped in the Guidance Office, and that the office’s current state of incompetence must end.
