How are Sudan’s humanitarian disasters affecting its neighbors?

“Refugees are also facing deadly conditions, and across borders, the situation has become inhumane amid UN appeals, prompting neighboring countries to speak out.”

Aid and relief initiatives

According to media reports, the displacement of millions of people to neighboring countries has caused many crises. Egypt, Chad, and South Africa received more than two million people who fled the tragic situation in the country.

Egypt has also received more than 250,000 Sudanese citizens since the start of the conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, the Egyptian Foreign Minister said that the country has launched a joint Egyptian-Qatari initiative to ensure the provision of support to the brotherly Sudanese people, in a way that facilitates the continuous flow of relief assistance and to support the humanitarian response in Sudan and the region, which was organized by Egypt in cooperation with the United Nations, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Germany and the African and European Union.

Sources familiar with the situation in Sudan also warned that the situation would cause a humanitarian catastrophe that would affect the security, economic and humanitarian situations in Sudan and neighboring countries.

The sources confirmed that Egypt continues to provide medical, food, and psychological aid to the border crossings, which reached 300 tons of emergency aid.

“More than two months of fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has displaced 1.7 million people inside Sudan and sent 500,000 fleeing to neighboring countries.”

Border crises

“The Egyptian consulate in the Sudanese city of Wadi Halfa is seeing a dramatic increase in the number of Sudanese citizens seeking entry visas to the country, after Egypt introduced new regulations requiring all Sudanese to obtain a visa regardless of age or gender.”

“Dozens of Sudanese, including women and children, wait for hours, sometimes days, in front of the Egyptian consulate to get their visas.”

There are 15,000 Sudanese who gathered at the Sudanese-Egyptian border in difficult living conditions and are seeking an entry visa from the Egyptian consulate in the city of Halfa.

“The situation at the Sudan-Egypt border crossing in Port Sudan deteriorated, and earlier this week after a 20-hour trip to Port Sudan, they found thousands camping outside the port area, without food, water or even medicine.”

tragic situation

“The situation in Sudan is tragic and deteriorating, and the humanitarian response conference in Sudan was very important, especially with the extension of the crisis and its impact on neighboring countries,” said Shawki Abdel Aziz, a Sudanese political researcher.

In a special statement, Abdul Aziz added that at the beginning of the crisis, the Egyptian and neighboring countries focused on humanitarian intervention and response, and also focused on the humanitarian aspect more than politics. Egypt and the neighboring countries were among the first countries to help transport their citizens and those of other countries, and all the time there was a focus on appealing for calm and humanitarian response.
