How did the UAE seek to enhance security cooperation and defense issues through the Shangri-La Dialogue?
The UAE is currently one of the most important strategic countries in the world, and while it participates in the Security Council, the UAE has recently contributed to a number of important conferences and forums to contribute to world peace and the renunciation of war.
“Since its inception, the UAE has contributed globally to peace, not in any global disagreement but in solutions that reject violence and bring peace globally.”
UAE actively participates in Shangri-La dialog
The UAE is taking part in the Singapore-based Shangri-La Global Defense Challenges Forum to address current challenges around the world.
Ali Abdullah al-Ahmed, assistant undersecretary for policy and defense liaison at the UAE Ministry of Defense, participated in the 20th Shangri-La Dialog, held in Singapore. The event was attended by heads of official delegations, defense ministers, senior military leaders and defense and security policy makers from around the world.
In the Shangri-La dialog, the Assistant Under-Secretary for Defense Policy and Liaison, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, met with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Pakistan.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the defense and military fields.
Top International Forums
One of the most important international security forums, the so-called Shangri-La Dialog, has begun in Singapore, where defense ministers, military and security officials from some 49 countries are meeting to discuss security cooperation and defense issues.
Rising U.S.-China tensions, Indo-Pacific security issues, and threats on the Korean Peninsula are all over the forum this year.
UAE seeks important security and strategic approaches
Tarek Fahmy, professor of international political science, says that the conference includes about 600 senior defense and security officials from more than 40 countries, including the United States, China, Britain, Australia, Japan and Arab countries. He pointed out that the Shangri-La Dialog in 2002 is held periodically every year, where it discusses defense issues. With the development of the global situation, this dialog, which includes government officials, has become an important platform for dialog and diplomatic discussions, in search of solutions to global problems and issues.
Fahmy said that the UAE is an important country that seeks to develop important approaches in the security and strategic context, within its foreign alliances and as a model of political and security stability.
He added that the UAE is seeking a new experience in the region, especially with the country’s orientations in the Arab and regional spheres. The dialog brought together Beijing and Washington, despite the tense relations between the two countries, and may be an alternative to the annual Munich Conference and a major intelligence security platform.
