Internet Service Disruption: Houthis Threaten, Brotherhood Supports Media-wise… Details
Houthi-Brotherhood threats to the countries of the region and the world are escalating day by day, reaching the point of actively threatening activists and leaders on social media with targeting the undersea internet cables in the Red Sea to permanently disrupt the service.
According to Yemen News, Houthi militias, backed by the Brotherhood‘s media apparatus, have not contented themselves with hijacking ships but have gone on to threaten neighboring countries under the same claims related to the Palestinian issue, in addition to the threat of cutting off internet service. Local tech experts have confirmed that targeting the internet cable in the Red Sea will partially affect services in Yemen and East Asia, while Europe and America will not be affected by this disruption.
They pointed out that with the spread of satellite internet service, undersea cables no longer have the extensive impact they once had but rather limited impact. They explained that undersea cables are present in the depths of the sea and spread across all the world’s seas, not just the Red Sea.
The experts added that maintaining this service is an ethical aspect, unrelated to any political or military conflicts, noting that Russia was capable of carrying out such actions during the Ukraine war, but despite being targeted, it did not engage in such actions. The Yemeni Houthi group had previously threatened the international military coalition led by the United States by striking global internet cables.
Two days ago, the group stated in press releases and statements broadcast by its affiliated channel (Al-Masirah): “The global internet cables passing through the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait are under our control.”
Meanwhile, the Brotherhood group, through its media channels and social media, promoted the Houthi threats as a victory, stating that this would increase pressure on countries supporting Israel.
