Israel Tracks Sinwar Underground with Advanced American Radar

The New York Times confirms that Washington has provided the Jewish state with advanced radar capable of penetrating underground waves to track Yahya Sinwar and other Hamas leaders.

American media have revealed that Israel intercepted communications from Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in the Gaza Strip with the help of American listening devices. It is believed that these communications originate from inside tunnels, but the exact location remains unspecified, while the disappearance of Ismail Haniyeh‘s successor at the head of the Palestinian movement remains enigmatic.

According to the New York Times, both Washington and Tel Aviv have invested significant amounts of money, along with advanced technology, to locate Sinwar without success. Israeli intelligence had formed a cell after October 7 with the mission to eliminate the Hamas leader, but to no avail.

Meanwhile, the CIA has established a cell to search for the Hamas leader, collaborating with Israeli intelligence to exchange information, while special forces have been sent to advise the Israeli military on its field operations in Gaza.

The American newspaper asserts that Washington provided Israel with advanced radar capable of penetrating underground waves to track Sinwar and other leaders that Israel wants to eliminate in retaliation for the October 7 attack.

The newspaper’s sources state that the advanced radar helped detect an underground tunnel network, in addition to a set of information gathered from Hamas prisoners and documents providing an overview of the complex tunnel system that has puzzled Israeli military leadership.

American and Israeli sources report that Sinwar has ceased using electronic technologies for some time, preferring to communicate or receive information through highly trusted individuals, which has helped him avoid many intelligence traps. These human couriers played a crucial role in relaying his messages related to ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip.

The newspaper states that the Hamas leader has managed to “emerge from the tunnels multiple times with complete secrecy and was only detected after returning to the tunnels.” Additionally, “he used wired and wireless communications a few days and weeks after the October 7 attack.”

Israeli, Qatari, Egyptian, and American officials told the newspaper that contact with Sinwar has become increasingly difficult, with responses taking much longer in recent months, while Hamas claims that communication with its leader is running smoothly.

Hebrew media previously reported that Israeli intelligence units reached sites used by the Hamas leader underground minutes after his departure, marking a progress in this area.

Yahya Sinwar, who was released in a previous prisoner exchange, was appointed as the leader of Hamas after the assassination of the head of the political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran.
