Israeli army announces elimination of two Hezbollah commanders

The Israeli army announced on Tuesday that it had carried out a successful military operation in southern Lebanon, resulting in the killing of two Hezbollah commanders.

According to the military statement, the strike targeted Mohamed Abbas Chaachou, responsible for artillery fire in the Sohmor area, as well as Mohamed Hussein Yassine, a senior figure in the group’s artillery unit in the Cheqif region.

The statement noted that “Chaachou was behind multiple rocket launches toward Kiryat Shmona and the Golan Heights, and had recently been working on rebuilding military infrastructure in southern Lebanon and implementing plans that posed a threat to Israeli forces.”

It further added that “Mohamed Hussein Yassine was involved in planning and carrying out operations against the Finger of the Galilee and Kiryat Shmona, and contributed to rebuilding the group’s capabilities and transferring military equipment to the south of the Litani River.”

The Israeli army reaffirmed that Hezbollah’s activities represent a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon, stressing that its forces would continue to act to eliminate any threat to national security.

In response, Lebanese authorities have repeatedly asserted that Israel continues to systematically breach Lebanon’s sovereignty despite the ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024.

They also emphasized that Israeli forces remain stationed at five strategic points in southern Lebanon, including the northern part of the village of Ghajar, which the Lebanese government considers an ongoing occupation and a violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
