Israeli escalation in Jerusalem and the West Bank: raids, arrests, and injuries

Raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque and on several towns and villages across the West Bank, along with arrests and injuries, marked a new day of Israeli escalation in the Palestinian territories.

This development comes only days after several countries, including France and the United Kingdom, officially recognized the State of Palestine during United Nations sessions—a move rejected by Israel, which strongly criticized these governments.

According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, settlers stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem on Wednesday under heavy Israeli police protection.

Local sources reported that dozens of settlers entered the mosque courtyards in successive groups, carried out what were described as provocative tours, and performed Talmudic rituals.

In the West Bank, a young Palestinian man was shot dead on Wednesday morning by Israeli forces in the village of Anza, south of Jenin.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed that 19-year-old Ahmed Jihad Brahamah was killed by Israeli gunfire in Anza.

Israeli forces, accompanied by several military vehicles, stormed the village, closed its main roundabout, and obstructed traffic along the Nablus-Jenin road.

The same morning, additional raids were reported in other villages south of Jenin, including Ya’bad, Sanur, and Umm Dar, where houses were searched.

In Ya’bad, southwest of Jenin, Israeli troops raided several homes, including that of Mayor Amjad Atatra, which they searched and damaged.

Arrest of three children

In the Ramallah area, three children were arrested at dawn on Wednesday in the village of Deir Abu Mishaal, northwest of the city.

Security sources quoted by Wafa said Israeli forces detained Youssef Adeeb Atta (13), Seif Ali Barghouti (14), and Mahmoud Zahran (15) after storming their homes and searching their belongings.

The same sources added that the army also raided the town of Turmus Ayya, northeast of Ramallah, conducted house-to-house searches, and seized several vehicles.

In Hebron, three Palestinians, including two women, were injured on Wednesday after being violently attacked by settlers in the Masafer Yatta area, south of the city.

Ratib Jabour, coordinator of the Popular and National Committees against the Wall and Settlements in southern Hebron, told Wafa that “settlers, accompanied by soldiers, assaulted young Youssef Hatem Makhameh and his mother, Khawla Makhameh, after storming and searching their home in the Al-Baraka neighborhood of Yatta,” leaving both injured.
