Italian report: Hezbollah was behind the smuggling of 15 tons of Captagon amphetamine pills

According to the Italian Nova news agency, Italian authorities declared that almost 15 tons of smuggled Captagon amphetamine pills confiscated last year seemed to have originated from the Iran-backed Lebanese Hezbollah group and not ISIS. A Naples prosecutor stated that the financial value of the seized drugs was about one billion dollars.

Indeed, Italian authorities earlier considered that ISIS was behind the drug smuggling process, but investigations revealed that the Syrian regime and Hezbollah were responsible on that act.

Moreover, the drugs were included in three suspect containers that contained papers intended for industrial use and iron wheels.

As part of an investigation aired by the BBC, the Italian Financial Crimes Unit gave more details about the lot, indicating that it arrived from Syria and was seized last summer in operation described as the largest of its type.
