Lebanese analyst: A rift and rebellion strike the Islamic Group in Beirut

The proximity of the Sunni Muslim Brotherhood – an extension of Lebanon’s Muslim Brotherhood – to the Shia Hezbollah triggered sharp differences among leaders of the group, which was founded in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Sunni-Shia convergence

Lebanese media reports revealed that the Islamic Group’s relations with Hezbollah reflect the close relationship between Hezbollah and the Islamic Resistance Movement “Hamas,” which is also an extension of the Muslim Brotherhood’s thought in Gaza and the West Bank. The relationship is a confusing ideological confluence, divided by doctrinal differences and loyalty, since the Lebanese Shiite group is tied to the Islamic State of Faqih in Iran.

Reports indicate that among the leaders of the Lebanese Islamic Group, who publicly announced the group’s distancing from its base and subjecting it to close monitoring of its movements, is the issue of MP Imad al-Hout, who may eventually be forced to resign from the organization. Other sources say that “differences in viewpoints are still under control.”

Rebellion within the group

Bassel Al-Torgoman, a Lebanese political analyst, says that the developments in the rapprochement between the Islamic Group and Hezbollah have caused this crack and the insurgency that has begun to form within the Islamic Group in Lebanon.

Lebanese MP Imad al-Hoot, known for his anti-Shia stance, does not seem to have grasped the shock of the group’s opening to Hezbollah, said the analyst. He said Hout is not satisfied with the political performance of the group, which has authorized him to serve as its representative in the Lebanese parliament, which compels him not to deviate politically from the group’s vision and line of sight.

He confirmed that what is troubling Imad al-Hout is the transformation of the leadership of the Islamic Group to practice exclusion, suppression of opinions, and suppression of his movements, in a step that clearly points to the story of the wings that are attempting to revolt or foment division within them. It is also likely that the whale is thinking about establishing a political party within the group.

The leadership of the Islamic Group had asked Imad al-Hout to be politically disciplined and adhere to the Brotherhood’s ceiling. Al-Hout was asked to be “described as a ‘class’ away from his personal views because he represents a party in parliament and does not represent himself and must reflect the Brotherhood’s positions and orientations.
