Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launches “Billion Meals” campaign


UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the launch of the “Billion Meals” campaign on Saturday, the largest campaign to feed and combat hunger in 50 countries around the world.

Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoumtweeted: “With God’s blessing, we are today launching a billion-meal campaign. The largest food campaign and the fight against hunger in 50 countries around the world.. Ramadan is the month of fasting, during which we feel the suffering of 800 million people who live hungry every day”.

He added: ‘There is a real humanitarian crisis because of hunger and food security.. And the one billion people with the meal of its slogan, “He does not believe in me, whosoever sleep full at the night, while his neighbor is hungry”. We have one billion noble humanitarian messages from the UAE to the world”.

The campaign, “the largest in the region to provide food support amounting to one billion meals for the poor and hungry in 50 countries beginning on the first day of Ramadan, aims to build on the specific results of the previous Ramadan campaign, which distributed 220 million meals, and the number will be updated to one billion meals”.

The One Billion Meals Campaign will help “combat hunger and malnutrition worldwide, especially among vulnerable groups of women, children, refugees, displaced people and victims of disasters and crises”, the official WAM news agency reported.

In March, Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said, “The best charity is to feed food, and the best of the people who think about others. Our country is retained with the good that we do”.

On the message of the “One Billion Meals” initiative, he said: “Our target is a billion meals.. and sending one billion humanitarian messages from the UAE to the world”.

On expanding the initiative to address hunger throughout the year, he said: “The world is facing challenges in providing food security for people, and our mission is to support our fellow human beings to save them from hunger”.
