OIC strongly condemns Houthi militia’s hijacking of Emirati ship
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has condemned the piracy and kidnapping by Houthi militias against a civilian vessel flying the UAE flag, calling for its immediate release.
Earlier in the day, the Saudi-led Arab coalition announced that the Rawabi cargo ship, flying the UAE flag, had been hijacked and pirated while sailing off Al Hudaydah province.
The ship was on a maritime mission from Socotra to Jizan port carrying all the field equipment needed to operate the Saudi Field Hospital on the island after its mission and the establishment of a hospital there, he said in a statement.
The ship’s cargo from the field hospital included ambulances, medical equipment, communications equipment, tents, a field kitchen, a sink, and technical and security support attachments.
The piracy by the Houthi terrorist militia poses a real threat to freedom of navigation and global trade in the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the southern Red Sea.
The Coalition stressed that the Houthi terrorist militias bear full responsibility for their criminal act of piracy and violation of the principles of international humanitarian law, the San Remo Manual on International Law in Armed Conflicts at Sea and the United Nations Conventions on the Sea.
The coalition demanded that Houthi militias immediately release the ship, threatening to take all necessary measures and measures to deal with this violation, including the use of force if necessary.
