One year since Mohamed bin Zayed assumed power in the UAE… Leading the way
A year ago, the UAE officially and popularly swore allegiance to HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan as President of the UAE and leader of its march amidst deep belief in His Highness’s ability to carry the banner and continue the march.
The historical leader was born to be the leader of a great nation, and within a year Mohamed bin Zayed made a difference, locally and globally, and he made a record of achievements, referred to as Lebanon, in promoting peace and security in the region and the world.
Governance and leadership
Born on March 11, 1961, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the third son of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, God’s willing, who was born in the school of his father, founding leader, Zayed al Khair. Sheikh Zayed was an early ruler in his country.
Today marks the first anniversary of the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who sought to strengthen the UAE’s position and its active role on the regional and international stage. After that, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan became President.
At the age of 18, His Highness completed his academic years between the cities of Al-Ain and Abu Dhabi, where he graduated from the State and United Kingdom schools.
Mohamed bin Zayed has a military background; He graduated in 1979 from the Royal Military Academy of Sandhurst in the United Kingdom where he received training in the Armor Corps, Vertical Aviation, Tactical Aviation, and Parachute Corps, and then joined the Officers’ Training Course in the Emirate of Sharjah.
He also held several political, legislative, and economic positions in the state, beginning with the assumption of the Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in November 2004. He also headed institutions such as the Abu Dhabi Education Council in September 2005, Mubadala Development Company in 2002, and the Office of the Economic Balance Program of the United Arab Emirates in 1992. He is also a member of the Supreme Petroleum Council and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan contributed to the development of the UAE’s armed forces in terms of strategic planning, training, organizational structure, and the strengthening of the state’s defense capabilities.
Environmental issues
Environmental issues are one of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s top priorities at both the official and personal levels; He led efforts to protect falcons, squid birds, and oryx antelopes both inside and outside the United Arab Emirates, and was instrumental in establishing the Abu Dhabi Environment Authority. In January 2008, His Highness announced that the Government of Abu Dhabi would grant $15 billion to Masdar, the world’s leading initiative in the field of alternative and renewable energy, and the first development of this integrated city that is completely free of waste and carbon emissions.
Important initiatives
One of the most prominent initiatives launched by Bin Zayed was his sponsorship of the Humanitarian Fraternity document signed in the United Arab Emirates in February 2019, which has become a World Day celebrated internationally every year.
The world has reaped the fruits of the humanitarian initiatives of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, which translate the concept of human fraternity as it should be, as Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed personally intervened to ease tensions in several places in the world, most notably his mediation to defuse the longest conflict in Africa between Ethiopia and Eritrea in July 2018, as well as his intervention in the earthquake crisis in Turkey and Syria, as well as his serious attempts to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and recently his attempts to support the people of Sudan and launch mediation initiatives and sending several aids to the war-stricken people of Sudan.

Mohamed bin Zayed’s career is filled with historic events that serve to strengthen co-operation and solidarity with brotherly Arab countries, support regional stability, and address all challenges affecting the security of the region, foremost among them terrorism and extremist ideology.
Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed received many medals and decorations from the UAE and other countries, including Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Morocco, Pakistan, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, China, South Korea, and Malaysia, in addition to the United Nations.
