Parliament of Yemen: Truce extension in light of Houthi violations is useless
The President of the Yemeni Parliament, Sheikh Sultan al-Burkani, said that the extension of the UN truce, in light of continued violations by Houthi, is futile.
In a remote speech at a meeting of the Middle East Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, al-Burkani said that al-Houthi militias are “a gang linked to and financed by Iran that strengthens its illegitimate position and does not abide by international laws and conventions”, noting that “those who slogan death cannot be serious partners in establishing peace”.
“Any attempt to extend the truce in light of these violations and practices will be futile and will not see the light of day, as long as this tyrannical gang continues to commit its crimes in Yemen in full view of the world,” he said.
Suffering
“The issue of Yemen is not a humanitarian issue as some are dealing with it, but rather a matter of land, people, freedoms, rights and a state with all its components,” he said; They were robbed by the Houthi terrorist gang, which is trying to create a state based on sectarian sectarianism and ethnic racism.
The volcano addressed the world, saying: “The Yemeni people are living both things; Number one: What the Houthi terrorist group is doing, and the other: “The repercussions of the food crisis will hardly be found in our food stocks in the coming period, and we may even reach a big famine,” he said.
Al-Burkani called on the IPU and the international community to “raise the pace of work for Yemen, restore the state, end the coup d’état, overcome the economic risks and challenges facing his country, and deal seriously with the Houthi violations that parliamentarians are being subjected to”.
“Despite the truce, the Houthis are still continuing their horrific violations against Yemenis, the issuance of so-called mock executions of parliamentarians, politicians and journalists, the confiscation of their homes and property, the displacement of their families, the recruitment of children and throwing them into incinerators,” he said.
Al-Burkani called on the IPU to take practical measures, not only to condemn but also to “seriously translate the situation into reality that would resolve the entire Yemeni crisis”.
Newer Crime
Yemeni activists circulated a document showing Houthi militias confiscating the house of Yemeni parliamentarian Ahmed Mohammed al-Asbahi after expelling his family and forcing his son Jamal to sign a declaration branding his father “treason” in the latest crime against Yemeni parliamentarians.
In recent years, the Houthis have sentenced 46 MPs to death, and militias have explicitly spared the blood of MPs for anyone who can kill them, including the general public, and stripped 83 MPs of their membership in the Sana’a House of Representatives in violation of the law and the constitution.
Yemen is witnessing a humanitarian truce that came into effect on April 2. Despite the Yemeni government’s concessions, Houthi militias refuse to implement one of its main provisions; lifting the siege of Taiz, as other crimes against the Yemeni people continue.
